Le Nord-Pas-de-Calais offers a wonderful combination of the great plains of the North, which is both an agricultural and industrial area, and the Dunkerque, Calais, Boulogne sur Mer and Côte d’Opale beaches. There are also ferries that cross to England at Coquelles and then there are the seaside resorts of Le Touquet, Wimereux or Malo-les-Bains, which have succeeded in keeping the charm of their traditional seaside-town architecture. Another feature is the wind that fills sails for speed sailing and sand sailing, together with kites, golf, horse riding along the water’s edge … And there is still that legendary friendliness that will encourage you to sit around a table to taste a Flemish ‘carbonnade’ (Belgian beef stew), ‘pot'je vleesch’, ‘coq à la bière’ (chicken braised in beer) or Maroilles tart. |
